I found this 🦊 on the far shore and could not understand its meaning. Perhaps you will have better luck.
Anime Fall 2023 Review: Largely meh, but a few stand-out stars, Frieren and The Apothecary Diaries. I also really like Under Ninja, but could see as to how that might be a particular taste. As is Let Me Check the Walkthrough First and The Family Circumstances of the Irregular Witch. I didn't think they were great, but they seemed to be widely disliked, which I disagree with. Then there's the WTF tier: Migi&Dali (bonus points for the ending), KamiErabi GOD.app, The Kingdoms of Ruin (minus points for Mopey), 16bit Sensation: Another Layer, Protocol: Rain (bonus points for the casual nudity). These were of varying low degrees of watchability, but also at some point went completely insane, which I appreciated. The dependable workhorse tier is Umamusume, Ron Kamonohashi's Forbidden Deductions, Dead Mount Death Play (this not being WTF is a downgrade from the first season, although bonus points for having a somewhat tied up ending.), SPY x FAMILY, My Daughter Left the Nest (etc). No peaks, no valleys, no point, but at least does what it set out to do. The generally disappointing tier is Ancient Magus Bride (same as last time), GOBSLAY (completely neutered, but still has the content warning), Shield Hero (basically filler episodes), Faraway Paladin (same), Shangri-La Frontier (I do like that there's the real world, but no real point so far, though there is more), Tearmoon Empire (just insufficient?), SHY (never really got anywhere). I've heard there are other good shows, but not on Crunchyroll, and I've given up on the streaming wars. I'll get to it eventually. #animeJoker: the city was nice, but uncomfortable to watch, given that you are currently reading my insane joke book. #tvStar Trek Prodigy ep 1,2: has the same Safari Netflix widescreen thing as Rebel Moon. This is apparently been going on for months, but I never noticed. The show is also an off-brand Star Wars. (So far.) #tvPsycho-pass: Providence: This is from the middle, but I'm still missing one. Ever more confusing, but I still like Akane. #animePokemon Concierge: Were they replacing the entire head every frame? Or is it well-textured cgi? Visually impressive either way. Contains a bellsprout. #tvThe netracells are super easy. I don't know what that warning was going on about. And by easy I mean Kullervo's overshield (+++str, -eff -dur), the Nami Solo with the melee influence r3, and just because it likes a crowd, the Catabolist and the new mod. I also had the boar prime incarnon, but mostly tried not to use it because it was my go-to for the assassinate missions I've been doing for rep and the event. I could use more armor strip, but the debuffs don't matter, nor the enemy level. Got 2 shards, one tau-forged. Still looking to put a double green on Mesa. I'd bring Hydroid to lock down the entire security zone, but I worry about the health pool. Or Frost? Harder to build the shield, but massive armor strip. Also since Kahl randomly started to work, I should do that for a few months for shards. I got everything else already. The continued story line has been nice. The whole reason I was in the netracell was to get the entrati thing for rank 5. I got a ton of them, funded the entire Jahu Gargoyle, then they never dropped again. I need at least 7 more for the frame, too. #warframeRebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fir: The full screen view has something like 1/6th the screen cut off, including the e in the title. Definitely Zach Snyder's Star Wars so it's boring and there's slow mo, and weird Orange County politics. It is at least lit. I complain about a lot of things being the middle part of a trilogy, but this is like the first part of a 9 part epic. It's got time for a few digressions, but also seems incredibly small. The big death star battle was one dude in a turret. #tv@JuliusGoat "I don't know how to explain to people that if you're willing to support fascists when the economy is bad, it incentivizes fascists to ruin the economy." @f_a_r_t_s "The fact that my landlord can call the police to enforce his property rights but I can't call the police to enforce our lease tells you everything you need to know about what the police's role in society actually is" @svdate "The Constitution has four requirements to run for president: 1) Natural-born citizen 2) 35 years old 3) Lived in US for 14 years 4) Not have violated oath to uphold Constitution by engaging in an insurrection. If you don't think (4) should matter, why should the others?" Though to that point, the emoluments clause didn't matter at all, either. If both Congress and the courts are going to throw the ball back and forth, maybe nothing matters except force. #memeScavenger's Reign: Excellent SF Weirdness. The animation is not the greatest, but it is well directed, and the writing is great, and the concept is out of this world. Very "Made in Abyss", with the Hollow and the flowers of eternal fortune and the beautiful world that is also extravagantly deadly. Probably should not attempt to eat melted cheese (or anything) while watching this. #tv@behindyourback I'm not a "leftist" or "socialist" so much as I'm just a "society is a construct and we've constructed ours into a pyramid scheme meant to exponentially help the small few at the top while crushing everyone else and it's dumb as hell and we don't have to keep doing it" #memeBEEF ep 1: not that it is bad, but I can't stand it. Peak Capitalism or something. #tvhttps://www.telotrucks.com/ it's not that efficient, but I do like to see that there's a smaller utility vehicle planned. #apteraother warframe story ideas for the public domain: Kill the grineer queen, but they want revenge, devolve into grineer/infested hybrids. (Update the grineer base with bioreactor node, spawn different, harder enemies on the other grineer tilesets after you complete the quest, like the Stalker or Acolytes). Now that you have mastered the void, go visit the sentients, use the choice you made with Lotus/Natah to win them over: 'look, this human accepted me as I am'/'look, we have exceeded our programming, and this human accepted me'/'look, I became something the humans could love, we can coexist'. Then defend them from the terraforming bio-monsters the sentients were using for practice. (This could be an open world with Attack on Titan style flesh monsters instead of Eidolons, or an entire new star chart/tileset(s)) And there's still my alt-duviri idea, a third universe where you mastered the void but went insane, and the drifter has to fix it alone, until the operator masters the void in universe1 and can send frames/angels over until you kill/rehabilitate yourself, collapsing universe3 into an expanded undercroft or something. (so story mode, a few small maps, not many new models) #warframePossibly simpler story: The Entrati family notices some noise in the basement, send you in, waves of robots, find the smashed sarcophagus & lab, wake everybody up, "you killed papa", "no, he fled Him, back in time", artifact 1999, "too late!", "We'll send you back in time, but you need to get better, have our melee training" It makes the melee grind the point, it doesn't use a 3rd party plot catharsis to paper over the dream image they committed themselves to, it doesn't actually involve the Man at all. Because what we saw kind of made me more sympathetic to the other me. I know Tenshin says He must not be released, but Tenshin also says that weird thing about staunching the wounds of my comrades, so I'm thinking maybe he isn't the last word on matters medical or metaphysical. It seems obvious that what comes out of the void is a warped mirror of what went in. Maybe the answer shouldn't be hitting it with a bigger stick. Dive deeper than Entrati, embrace what you find, come back with your own angels, and more of a door than a wall. You might fight one or the other for cinematic purposes, but you'd win by showing him he failed as researcher. He didn't understand, was afraid of his own reflection. (Much like Stephen Colbert's view of Christianity, people are in general afraid of the void, and it reflects that back, but it is not intrinsically evil.) #warframeWarframe Whispers Initial Impression: Time travel is always problematic, but this skips over that by explaining nothing and putting it off for the second part. They were nice enough to blur the naked kavat's butt. The story turns Albrecht into a scared little man, and the Man into a sympathetic extradimensional entity, who we are still supposed to dislike because he is terrifying but hasn't actually done anything to anybody, or is a literal reflection, who we are also still supposed to dislike for some reason. (The Destiny problem: if the lore explains nothing, it doesn't matter. If it explains everything, it probably isn't all that interesting. People shouldn't be afraid of the Man just because he's incomprehensible and off-putting. People still vote for Ted Cruz or DeSantis.) This expansion's "bit from somebody's dream we built this around" gets turned into a BL story, and then forgotten, except that involves some more emotion thing I don't think made any sense. (Addressing Loid's emotional deal stops the Man's Giant Dude? How? Why? The undefined incoming enemy is Loid's nightmares? Because I have a solution to that. We already have one NecroLoid.) (Perhaps related to my complaint about Duviri's emotions: if it had taken steps to help the player with their emotions, it would have been a more positive force than just intoning poetic bullshit about dragons. Just pointing out that men often repress their feelings until it breaks out in the form of endless waves of robots isn't as good as telling the player they probably need therapy.) The first bounty was also the first RTFM moment: find sarcophaguses, except they only spawn in one place on the map, and the map is huge so it's not like you'll get there by accident. They are also very hidden, and there is no manual. There's a super hard mode for those people that want it, and while the content is very high level, it's not steel path hard. I stopped using the grimoire immediately because the Boar Incarnon was shredding everything. I haven't gotten into the melee stuff yet. So it looks like it boils down to a giant grind for melee arcanes at the Space Lab of Dr. Moreau, which is OK, but nothing else really needed to be there. I didn't see any bugs, although you'll note I waited 4 days for the hot-fixes. (There is some thing that allows you to spawn a necramech? Just using the terminal doesn't do it. That might be me not seeing it.)(It's not like there aren't still issues: I was doing Solaris bounties for Nightwave, and on all the drone and trap missions, the target exploded almost immediately. I don't know why. It wasn't doing that last week when I was doing Narmer bounties to make up for the bond mods. Related: there are so many enemies in the new bounties that contagious bond will crash the game.) #warframeThe Aptera Investor webcast was nice, but didn't include anything notable beyond the recent tub/full body news, except Chris almost made Steve choke on his soda. Related: "The U.S. insisting that a fossil fuel phaseout is the moral litmus test for climate leadership at COP28 while reaching record levels crude oil production—with no plans to stop!—feels like a strategy designed in a lab to drive people insane" journalist Kate Aronoff. It is a litmus test, though, and we failed it. #apteraLeave the World Behind: good, though very slow. One might compare and contrast this world view with the latest news out of COP. You can build a bunker and stockpile your antibiotics, but can you outlast the climate change? #tv"B2B Rocket AI agents have generated this email on behalf of Biometric Signature-ID (BSI)." AI has come to spam, except the name and company, and industry, are all wrong. Anime to look up: Heavenly Delusion. Also the Max space thing the name of which I have already looked up again and forgotten again. [Update: "Scavenger's Reign" I just noticed its a year old. I had to learn about it from Tumblr.] #todo#animeElysium: kind of racist (make it a shuttle, but, you know, Mexican) and sappy. Also posits a future in which the vast dying mass of humanity that wrecked the planet won't die off, thus fixing the planet? It's that sort of short term happy ending thinking that got us into this mess. Unrelated, but I would like to complain about Netflix. I did not know this was on the service, and I check the sf stuff periodically, new stuff weekly. I found it because it was recommended for "Rare Exports". (which is not available, because nothing I ever look for on Netflix is there.) #tvWonder Woman: speaking of pointless wars. It is better than the rest of the Snyder-verse (which is to say better lit, mostly), but I wouldn't say it was good. WWI was an odd choice to introduce a god trying to stop wars. You know there was another one, right? I think a fundamental failing is it isn't either a video game or comic book. It's a series of key frames that the rest of the movie grows out of like a fungus. #tvI've been 'amused' by the fact check section of Google News during the most recent Israeli war. "2 year old arrested" - false, because the arrest happened before the war. "Israel's supreme court rejects human rights group's request to declare it unlawful for soldiers to shoot at unarmed civilians." - true "Man hits children with car." - true. "Dead baby is a doll" - false, dead baby is dead baby. None of this makes the actual news. Super Mario Brothers: about what you'd expect. At least Miyamoto got paid. Not nearly enough Yoshi. (As @FSlider64 points out, Nintendo will do anything to avoid a front facing Yoshi.) #tv"I just heard someone refer to the Bible as "The Goat Herder's Guide to the Galaxy" and I will now forever be using this term." -uncredited #memeI should probably document this: if the logged-in Crunchyroll window isn't visible, Safari won't feel compelled to run the JS that makes it log out before the network is available, so it doesn't log out every single time. Very nice. I agree that some of the music is a little much. The rest of the music sounds like it came from TUNIC, could have had the boss battles from that. In true anime fashion, not the complete series. There are a few things, like throwing in random Japanese words like a weeb, random plot holes (plot? maybe just insufficient animation, like how did one and only one person get on the bridge at the end, or if you have made a decision to save somebody, and you have a sword in your hand, how do you not stick it in the object of your revenge as you run past them? Could have just shown him ducking or something.)(Or the fight in the dark could have referenced that the Swordfather was blind, and that BES learned a thing or two.) #anime#tv@BettyBowers "I'm wondering if Tommy Tuberville is not motivated by his obsession with abortion, but by wanting to leave as many military vacancies as possible so newly elected President Trump can fill those posts with loyalists who will use the military against civilians in the next election." @lindyli "Tuberville's military block is NOT about abortion Paul's State Dept block is NOT about

I then stole their account because, as the article points out, that is basically a credit bureau's approach to identity verification: whoever is most persistant in registering an account. Somehow, they are still trusted to determine people's worth in a capitalist society. #complainingThere's still time to turn it around, but most of the continued series this season have not been good, or even adequate. GobSlay has been completely neutered, Magus Bride is still all school all the time, Shield has squabbling and insufficient Raphtalia, and Faraway Paladin is grinding xp because he has to level up to meet the boss dragon. SpyXFamily, UmaMusume has continued to do its thing. Death Play is still good, but the cast is getting ever larger without a goal in sight. Speaking of inadequate, there's still no sort option in CR's watchlist that will group all the unwatched episodes together, or, god forbid, present only unwatched episodes. Why is it so hard to think that people would want that? #anime@qntm Heartwarming! This 2-year-old's family couldn't afford his $20,000 electric wheelchair, and their insurance didn't cover it. So, a high school robotics team burned down the insurer's

Though a related concept: I don't have children, but if I did, I'd want to be able to present to them important things from the past like Connections. This is incompatible with the streaming world. #tvWarframe Plague Star event: Is this where I got the exodia arcane? I did not have either of the blueprints, so maybe I ground that out the slow way, but I don't think so. In any event, it's a pain. I haven't seen any of the bugs, but the boss is slow to solo, at least with everything I've thrown at it, including uniaru, gotva, and the excellent horse-like lady, or soma and saryn's viral. I think I'll stick to the relics. I had more than 100 forma without grinding, aside from the assembler/daily login. I haven't seen a lich in months so they just piled up. On the other hand, while I was there I noticed I don't have 1 hunter and 2 gladiator mods, so I've been working on the ghouls instead, as it's a done week for duviri. Never did Narmer, Caliban, either, because it bugged out repeatedly. The ghouls only broke once in 30 Defector tries. (still no mod...) #warframeI voted. There is a new system, and it is of course terrible. You check in by signing a screen on a stand so the signature is completely broken, get 2 pieces of paper and a card with a chip in it. The card then activates a screen, where you could, if you have better eyesight than I do, make selections on a virtual copy of the paper ballot. It then prints your ballot (double sided) in easily readable huge type on a billboard-sized, high-quality paper, which you then have to carry in public to stand in line in front of another machine, then insert the card and the paper, and have it jam, which is why there was a line. I have questions about the card's contents, the 'secret' ballot waving around in the breeze, exactly what sort of codes might be printed on the marked ballot and what happens to it, who thought all the additional paper was a good idea, or why any kind of delicate mechanical system would replace the previous and much more robust mechanical system, and why the UI is the (no longer available) paper ballot and not some thing designed to fit on a screen, or be readable. (It might have zoomed? I voted the correct column, so didn't need to be able to read names.) It seems like step after step has been added to the process because nobody wants to deal with encryption, or just leaving it alone. I would also like to complain about the Trump, "Fuck Joe Biden" plastered mega-truck parked outside the voting place, an elementary school. Think of the children. Also, the health insurance is up 13% for ""inflation"", and covers less, for "profit". It also tells you to go to '/getCovered', which is 404 and not the same thing as '/getcovered'. #complainingI just learned the Formorians were an Irish mythical race not unlike the Vikings in character, and their leader is of course Balor. All the Grineer transports are Celtic, except for the big potatoes. Hey! Wait a minute! #warframeAlso, I just happened to catch the reference to the new AoT and also the rankings of the current anime. It turns out I missed 2, The Apothecary Diaries (average rating on CR: 5/5, 11k) and UNDER NINJA, which is funny ("dress for the ninja you want to be"). Also, 'The Family Circumstances of the Irregular Witch' is consistently the worst ranked show by a large margin, which I disagree with. I wouldn't say it's good, but it's not even the worst show I'm watching. #animeAttack on Titan Final Season THE FINAL CHAPTERS Special 2 (the actual end!): I still don't understand everybody's motivations. It actually addresses that and the best they've got is 'I saw it in a vision, so I messed with everybody so they act according the mangavision'. I did like the action and the end, though. If you haven't seen any of it in the last 10 years, it is worth watching. It might have been more politically helpful if it had demonstrated that Eren's fascist party was based in solid ideals like not being euthanized or living in a concentration camp, but the response (genocide, being a greasy incel, firing rockets into Israel) was also way too far and needed to be stopped. That would have made Eren more real, but also actually bad, which they seemed to start but then couldn't commit to, or suggest any other way out. And the vision was necessary to help (maybe?) the founder, but did it? How? And what of the Human Instrumentality Project? That just went away? Welp, back to the cycle of unending tragedy. #animeNew WoW reveal: insufficient, although I might need to log in once every few years to keep my account fresh. It's nice that they are plotting lore more than one step at a time, and won't make you rep-grind alts, but the 4 different reps were the only thing to do with shadowlands. Unless you are maxing out professions, which is insanity with the last set of professions. I'm assuming nothing is going to fix the economy. Nobody seems to have had the thought that maybe running around all the time makes the game less fun. The dragons helped, but ultimately it was still point its nose in the right direction and wait. Wowhead still has the video that occupies most of the page as well, and the news, even with this news, is still mostly not the main game. #wow#gamesThe Wolfman: all star cast, terrible. Also the music is like here's the battle of Helm's Deep, and some dude is gettin out of a carriage. (admittedly, that dude is Elrond.) And del Toro's mumblecore acting doesn't scream American actor of the early 1900's. #tvCold Pursuit: I kept thinking I'd seen this before, but it was the original. #tvThe Crunchyroll logout thing is when the Mac wakes from sleep, maybe it doesn't have the network available right as Safari starts running? I wonder if I could manually pause/break the login loop. Pluto: interesting adjacent. It does go on and on. In other news, I'm considering canceling Netflix with the recent price increases, and possibly moving to Youtube. The highs aren't as high, but there is a lot more of it. #anime#tvPSE&G announced they are requiring MFA. OK, but it's SMS only, the thing that is substantially worse than just having a password. I still don't know how to cancel the gas service, and I just got another scam phone call trying to switch my electric service provider. If they really wanted to increase security, perhaps they could look at stopping that. #complainingAmerican Made: the good old days #tvGood Night World: rough start, then gets interesting, then a lot of crying and an Inception ending. It wasn't an Air Tag, but had an LED visible for CELL and GPS on the circuit board, and a magnetic case that clearly wasn't magnetic enough. I thought about taking the SIM card and seeing what the iPhone3 would do with it, but it is also probably governmental, given that a car's owner could get it attached to the power, and a stalker would buy an Air Tag. @jessecase The news is always like: "America has banned wheelchair ramps because they weren't in the Bible. Finland has made ice cream free." #memeGet Out: was looking for the clues in the beginning, still wasn't expecting the Great Coagula. #tvFall 2023 Anime First Episode Review:
A Girl & Her Guard Dog: Seems to have triggered the comments section. I think it's just too shoujo for me, which is ok.
* All Saints Street: Whole thing is out, repackaged Chinese short. The inter-short bumper is long and repetitive, but it made me laugh every time, and the Man Goat is very cute. Thou wouldst like to live deliciously.
Berserk of Gluttony: "But don't rate this 1 star just because there are others like it." Yeah, but the others like it are better. I would support it as a non-isekai fantasy, but it still has a video game interface for no reason, the random Christian imagery, and the sword of destiny in the cheap bin.
Firefighter Daigo: Rescuer in Orange: sports anime, but with fire. Real firefighters complain about its authenticity. If I'm not going to learn anything, why bother.
* Frieren: Beyond Journey's End: Now that's the stuff.
MF GHOST: "renders most gas engines obsolete by 202X" that's a little optimistic, considering Toyota's lobbying. While I am opposed to auto-racing and the follow-on effect on regular driving, the show seemed well constructed. The first episode didn't even get into a race.
+ Migi&Dali: Objectively terrible, but it's good bad.
- My Daughter Left the Nest and Returned an S-Rank Adventurer: cute, not isekai
OVERTAKE!: Straight up sports anime, without the weirdness of "202X", but also without the Initial-D legacy. Although "girls are in to motorsports, apparently" is up there with "Somehow, Palpatine returned."
Paradox Live THE ANIMATION: not a lot of music for a music show
- Ron Kamonohashi's Forbidden Deductions: reasonably interesting mystery
- Shangri-La Frontier: birb. Has a video game interface, because it's a video game, plus humor
- SHY: I do kind of want to slap her
The Yuzuki Family's Four Sons: DNF, chatgpt did the subtitles
The Family Circumstances of the Irregular Witch: kind of dumb and lacking character, but I've seen worse. Oddly reminds me of SoggyCardboard, Carmen and Joey
+ KamiErabi GOD.app: I liked it, except for the spider web lines in the background, and that the school uniform is clearly somebody's fetish
I'm Giving the Disgraced Noble Lady I Rescued a Crash Course in Naughtiness: clickbait title
A Playthrough of a Certain Dude's VRMMO Life: I was going to skip this as being redundant, but it has Shiori Izawa in it. It's weak and she isn't in this episode.
BULLBUSTER: no way I wouldn't misread the title all season.
16bit Sensation: Not a thing I'm nostalgic about, in that it is practically yesterday, but might be educational if it's true to life
A Returner's Magic Should Be Special: seems to have rabid fans, but the names are terrible and I can't take it seriously
Let Me Check the Walkthrough First: parody isekai, better than Vending Machine, still dumb
My New Boss is Goofy: anti-black company propaganda?
- Tearmoon Empire: interesting concept, though I'm pretty sure the end is not Terry Pratchett level of insight, or communism.
* The Kingdoms of Ruin: you can inject that directly into my eyeballs
Butareba -The Story of a Man Turned into a Pig-: Considers being perverted, but then isn't
Protocol:Rain: too straight-forward to be interesting, but does have some fox imagery, so it can't be all bad. I like the PS1 graphics.
The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, REALLY Love You: ugh
Stardust Telepath: slice of life where they are all crazy, but not terrible
Unless I cut back, I've gone from too few things last season to too many. Trying to watch more than 2 rows (6!) in CR's watchlist just reminds me how bad the watchlist is. #animePsycho-Pass 3 First Inspectors: Apparently there's another missing movie before this. I need a map. Like who were the Foxes? Also, no fighting in the brain room! Still need to watch https://www.crunchyroll.com/series/GR75253JY/psycho-pass S3 #animePsycho-Pass Movie: Did not see this, though I believe I have seen the other movie, and also did not see the 3rd season, but apparently started what Crunchyroll has as season 12. Still need to see the third season, at least. I think '12' is a recap? And 3 has 2 unrelated parts? Still a great concept, but they are not making it easy to watch. (related: CR's 'More Like This' doesn't connect any of these things.) #animehttps://www.youtube.com/@SUVRVing Locations you can drive to? I could use that for car-camping. #travel"Godzilla says: Sex work is real work unlike being a landlord - a weaponize apathy psa" That reminds me: the 'free market' that Adam Smith et al were going on about is not the regulation-free market the modern Republicans want, but one free from rents. So 2 people could agree on a real price, without broker fees, high frequency front running, or etherium gas money. #meme@tina_sanfilippo "imagine naming ur daughter Lizard & she'll be called Liz & 1 day someone will ask "is your name Elizabeth" &
she'll be like nah it's Lizard" Cass, May, and Liz. #memeHarriman: I should really never go there again. I went back to the south, after my planning for another northern trip found a bridge out. I've already forgotten the names, but I did the white brook trail, which was very nice, then the black trail which is never the one I think it is. It's very steep, and has a ladder on it. I'm not sure if I ever did that part of it before or if the ladder is new. There was not another person there, so I had a nice time. Unfortunately, the arch on my right foot started to hurt when impacted, which given Harriman's omni-present rocks, is every other step. I soaked it in a stream a couple of times, which helped me explore the levee overflow area. All that was under construction the last time. I saw some Spotted Lantern Fly moths, squashed 2, and I think some woman took my picture as I was leaving, like point blank, turned and snapped. I'd been on my best behavior, so I don't know why. Or else it was just a coincidental selfie. Because of the foot, I tried to go back via the Pine Meadow trail, which is less vertical, but not any shorter, has way more rocks, and The Public, so it was vastly more unpleasant. I was following a family of older people because I noticed they took a short-cut, so I didn't have to worry about the trail blazes, but we ran into some young-ish mega-autist who literally t-posed in the middle of a bridge and wouldn't move. My guides tried to go around through the stream, so he began to explain at length about something. I'm pretty sure they did not understand a thing about that encounter. We walked past him and his family, who I guess have given up trying to deal with that behavior. I annoyed some woman because I got off the Pine Meadow trail to sit down on a boulder and drink, but that turned out to be another trail. They are all just a bunch of rocks though. The lakes are tea-colored. I don't recall that, either. The northern one definitely wasn't 9 years ago. The brooks were very full. Some of the trails were running water. I did remember to bring a trash bag, but because there's no grocery bags any more, I had an actual trash bag, which was far to heavy to mount on the backpack, so I carried it and it stabbed me in the legs repeatedly. I had rivulets of blood, but was probably to too dehydrated to actually bleed. [I ain't got time to bleed.] I got another person thanking me for the trash and assuring me she also sometimes totally does that. I saw a dead fox on the way home, next to the retaining wall as 17 descends. It probably had nowhere to go as somebody swerved for it. #travel#masochismThe intellectuals of the right wing: "Charles Haywood, a former industrialist the Guardian exposed last month as the founder of a secretive fraternal lodge and a would-be warlord, wrote in 2021 that “I like, if not love, the idea of Red Caesar” since “Caesarism, and its time-legitimated successor, monarchy, is a natural, realism-based system, under which a civilization can flourish”. The idea has been lodged in the broader sphere of conservative debate in the rightwing writer Stephen Wolfe’s book The Case for Christian Nationalism, in which he proposes a “Christian prince” whose rule would be “a measured and theocratic Caesarism”, and might perhaps be installed by “a just revolution” against secular rule." https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/oct/01/red-caesar-authoritarianism-republicans-extreme-right #memeSacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts Original Soundtrack (Expanded Edition): I don't remember any of this, and you'd think you'd notice. Cinematic to say the least. #music#animeMacOS 14, iOS 17 initial impressions: The Safari favorites is slightly wider and breaks muscle memory. Minor, but irritating and literally the first thing I noticed. The private browsing lock thing is nice, but also breaks how I was using it: just don't remember anything about random news sites. It's not a locked down secret, or even 'porn mode', as my anime image browsing is logged-in (ironically, so I can filter out the porn). The StandBy feature was the thing I was most looking forward to, but it doesn't seem to be able to display widgets and a digital clock at the same time. (I might be wrong about that. I got into it once, but haven't been able to activate it on purpose again. It's also supposed to have a dim mode? And stay on?) The functionality is good, except it seems to want me to unlock to show photos, but touching the sensor opens the homescreen, and there's still no indication of stacked widgets. I wanted to use it as a smart clock, not a hard to trigger second lock screen. It does not stay on, making it pointless. There's also 2 fewer Music widgets available. I wanted one of the missing 2. I don't have the screensaver turned on, so no comments about any of that. (Let me know when there is a MiA Nanachi specific one, or Unsounded.) I did move my 2 main widgets (calendar, reminder) out of the notifications and on to the laptop screen. It's off most of the time, but because it won't stay off, I'll still see them more. I did have to update BBEdit which wouldn't start, but as I haven't paid for it in years, I also haven't updated it in ages. I'm not liking this autocomplete thing. The weather app is really nice. Weather Underground is still better at showing the specific late night temps days in advance, but my biking needs are admittedly niche. The zoom mode I was using is gone? [Update: no, you just have to open the Advanced tab, scroll down, and say, hey, isn't that exactly it, and then try it again, only to have it start working.] #macAkudama Drive: not as horrifying as Edgerunners, but close. Good stuff. #animeThe Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar: Interesting, and the only one of the "and 6 more" that I remembered. Very Wes Anderson, but a more straight retelling than Mr Fox. #tv"The Guardian and the investigative journalism organisation DeSmog recently revealed that lobbyists associated with the gas boiler sector had attempted to delay a key government measure to increase the uptake of heat pumps." And so it goes. #memeI got "Please be advised, the charges for the repair of XXX from the leak have been completed and your account has been charged accordingly." from the condo maintenance people. That's it, no other info. This from the person who said "My sincerest apologies for the previous documents you have received." when I said I hadn't submitted the previous disaster to the insurance company because they had rejected the previous invoice as inadequate, and the second one was worse. (And looking at the documents, couldn't blame them: something written to another address, and something in pencil that said 'repairs'. Neither had a letterhead or name on it.) No bill, receipt, paperwork, anything, plus it's $1,500. What were they doing down there? #complainingSummer 2023 Anime Review: Vending Machine is dumb. Masterful Cat is also pretty dumb but cuter. Gene of AI is less dumb, and I'd like more in this vein, but the points it makes are very irritating. (Unless the secret meta point is 'we trained these humanoids wrong as a joke'.) Undead Murder Farce's parade of public domain characters was the only decent new show, and possibly the only enjoyable use of rakugo. I dropped everything else new I was watching. It's possible I have simply seen too many anime, but then I'm also getting caught up on Akudama Drive, which is great. Mushoku Tensei is good, and I watched the first season. I thought isekai was bad to begin with, but to start with this, then devolve to things like Vending Machine. Sacrificial Princess is better than the first season, due partly to Lante's blep, and that it has an end with a climax and everything. I withdraw my previous complaint that it didn't have an arc or character development, but add the intro parts are slow. #animeCP2077v2: my mad bomber is not viable any more, or at least not as much as it was. I could not install enough implants to cyberpsycho myself. It's also slower than it was. I heard it was more demanding, but it might also have reset everything. I still can't drive the cars. #gameDental update, two weeeeks: It's been fine. It feels weird if I bite something that pokes that spot, but it doesn't hurt, hasn't bled, or extruded bone fragments. It feels weird when I sneeze. One oddity: my jaw pops when I yawn, and that hasn't happened recently. Possibly coincidence, but it would be nice if it didn't do that again. [update: it's doing it again] #medical#toofParkwolf, the national parks app #travelMark Blyth had a cool bit on the 9-19 Make Me Smart. related- https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/dec/31/politics-prosecco-democrats-joe-manchin-key-bill "There should be a reverse Indiana Jones film where a South American tribe sneaks into the Vatican, steals some relics, and gets away on a boat while a bunch of men in golden robes shake their fists and shout their strange language." #memehttps://www.lakepowellhouseboating.com/blog/2019/04/where-to-find-the-secret-spots-at-lake-powell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlSmOGoBWzo #travel@izzzzzz Grateful to be living in the "Tetris when it's going too fast and blocks are helplessly piling up" era of human history #memeHoly Name Medical Center just sent me a bill for services rendered 9/8/2023, even though I haven't been there this year. (And will never go back, largely because of the sloppy billing for incredible amounts. Also Peace Health Partners double-billed me and kept it.) Turns out that was wrong, but they are billing me $1800 for something from 2022 that they only just now got around to. Giving me a crippling antibiotic resistant bacterial infection wasn't enough. #complainingCedar Breaks National Monument Utah https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YIymNXj7N4 The Jerry Arizona channel is from the Chris Broad style: long cinematic shots, genuine personality. He has a bunch of canyon hikes I'd love to do, but I'd definitely die. #travelTalentless Nana: the middle drags and needs a second season (the manga also has massive tone shifts and time skips, so it probably won't get one), but the beginning and end are great. #animePodcast Review: Everybody in the Pool. Attempts to be upbeat about the climate, but the character of the advertisers (Saudia Arabia and New Jersey's pharma industry?!) make its cheery tone and lack of hard hitting follow-up seem questionable. I continue to doom scroll. #podcast@zachsilberberg if i could be permanently ratatouilled i would. just relinquish all control. let the rat do it. im done #memeDental update: next morning, slept all night, still sore but it hurts less than the tooth did, no bleeding. So, would recommend this product/service as long as you can suck it up while somebody yanks a tooth out of your head. The headache is gone, but the wrist seems worse, and wet. I may have scratched it open. #medical#toofSnitch: Not so much action #tvDental update: Wonky Toof is out! I sat in the waiting room for 40 min, got a very awkward x-ray because of my height, then the doctor says let's yank the top, don't worry about breakfast because there's no sedation. Brutal, and I felt like I was choking, but brief. He shares the office with a pediatrician, so there was a plush fox in the room. I'm still oozing blood, which isn't great, but not actually bleeding. I don't have much swelling, yet. I don't want to get dry socket, so I haven't eaten, and tried more gauze, but that just ended up bloody and I'm still oozing. Might see what full time Soylent will do to me. I might also have poison ivy on my wrist (from trash in town? wouldn't have been expecting it there), and a headache. [2 hours: not oozing any more so far as I can see, had Soylent and ice cream. Headache is better, too.] [8 hours: still hurts, but no blood at all.] #medical#toofDental update: I found 2 more dentists in town. One exists, but doesn't look like it has been opened in years. The other doesn't respond to email either, but I can bike there. If not them, I'd have to go to the people who at least didn't ghost me. [I guess I'm going to the bike guy.] #toofGamera - Rebirth - Episode 1: kind of terrible. I realize Gamera is a friend to all children, but this has too many monster children who are little more than tropes. I would have accepted bad child actors from live action, but these are professional actors and the animation is also pretty bad. #tvhttps://www.tumblr.com/mostlysignssomeportents/723755486547181568/autoenshittification "But capitalism has finally run out of gas. The act of interposing yourself into another transaction is still capital intensive, though. Stock holding and the Binchou-tan Lifestyle is still viable. Remains to be seen exactly how Aptera will do with that. #shacklifeDisenchantment #5: has an end and stuff. Happily ever after. #tvDo dentists not do email or even their own contact forms? One ignored me entirely, the other texted me saying I should call. I saw your phone number under the form and didn't use it! Why even have a contact form? Or website? (oddly, all 3 local websites were built by the same firm. One doesn't have a contact form. I might consider calling them because they are the only ones with a big thing about using nitrous oxide, which might be fun.) I'd go in person to the cheap looking place in town that doesn't even have a website, but I'm not leaving the house in the heatwave, or the subsequent thunderstorm-wave. Tooth is just going keep hurting then. #complaining#toofTales from the Loop: nice concept, but very slow. #tvRIP Biscuit Invincible: not as diabolical or as political as The Boys, but good stuff. #tvNope: and then I had to walk home on a cloudy day #tvhttps://www.blackbirdspyplane.com/p/the-end-of-cool-small-cars?utm_source=digg I can't understand most of the lingo, but I think it is pro-Aptera? Maybe: the Aptera is much larger than the small foreign cars it mentions, but I think it is functional as a light duty pickup. The weight limit is pretty low, but it will fit long shaped things that won't fit in a sedan or hatchback. #apteraCode idea: Like the RSS proxy, but for podcasts. The podcasts app subscribes to a local feed, so there's no issue with downloading the last thousand episodes at random, or spontaneously deleting things, and can be flushed once everything is moved to the iPhone, so there's no 2-way sync going on. #codehttps://www.flickr.com/photos/aptera/ old v1 photos #apteraAndor: tense, though Andor is kind of an idiot. The podcast app, specifically the bit that can not be quit without restarting the machine once a week, is still the M1's biggest pain point, now that I don't turn it off or use the bluetooth keyboard or leave the TV or Notes app running. #mac#complaining""Millenials don't believe in democracy because we have never experienced it. In the United States, Democracy was repealed in 1976 with the Buckley v. Valeo Supreme Court decision. This contended that giving money to political parties was "free speech" and could not be infringed. In the stroke of a pen, American Democracy was dead and replaced with plutocracy. The ability to vote can be powerful, but not nearly as powerful as the ability to bribe, and this decision legalized bribery and called it "campaign contributions". Since then, virtually none of the after-inflation economic gains have been shared by Americans who are not high-earners and opinions of voters have had zero effect on policy. By contrast, opinions of donors have a very high correlation. Democracy has been dead since before any millennial was born, and every year the corpse that bears its name redistributes more wealth from the middle and lower classes to the corrupt. There seems to be a lot of stuff that doesn't get copied with the backups. There was somebody else getting an iPad complaining that the copy didn't do any of his music or passwords. The staff wanted him to subscribe to Apple Music, and then something like 30 minutes later said he needed to re-sync the device with the computer with the music on it. So apparently Apple treats the iPad like I treat the phone, a high-risk device that nothing important can live on, a read-only consumer tool. (also, kind of the way I treat the media on the Mac. It lives on the Pi, because Apple Music broke stuff, and the video doesn't fit.) You can't set up ssh keys with that fancy glowing orb qr code thing? Device to device encrypted channel? What is the back-up backing up? (aside from the private keys, allowing Apple to decrypt your info?) I really do need a new keyboard, so those were tempting. (I'd have to pop the keycaps, though.) They also don't do sim swaps, apparently so AT&T can add in a fee. They did take my mother's current phone, possibly because she didn't mention that it gets so hot it has melted plastic. #complainingGood Omens #2: I don't want to say meh, but I'm meh adjacent. There's a lot to enjoy, but basically nothing happens. Even things that could have had a bow slapped on top and shoved out the door go on forever until the characters themselves say you can't just have this story go the way you want, stop meddling, then something else gets launched out of left field, and then it ends. Very much the middle part of a trilogy. I did like the Terry Pratchett and Iain Banks novels in the background. #tvInstead of hold music, Schwab has a news report. I approve this product/service. Also, good luck stealing my Schwab identity, because they have it wrong, have for decades. Star Trek Into Darkness: Contains noticeably fewer JJisms. I think Netflix's 720p mode is not so much 720p as really extreme compression. Some parts of this looked terrible, others sharp as can be. #tvTerminator Genisys: Some bits in the beginning are awkward (is definitely not directed by James Cameron), but fun, self-aware, messing with multiple timelines to give everybody a happy end. #tvhttps://www.theguardian.com/travel/2023/jul/26/america-roadtrip-greyhound-bus This sort of thing is what the Aptera is for: own your own bed, own the road, avoid these cities entirely. "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age." ― H.P. Lovecraft Some people have clearly chosen the safety of a new dark age. #memeApple's Mail's create contact thing created contacts in Google, not iCloud, so it was thus a surprise when it did not show up on the phone. #complaininghttps://blogs.gnome.org/tbernard/2023/07/26/rethinking-window-management/ I would like to add there's 2 overlapping concepts: having all windows you need to see at the same time, and switching windows. Tiling systems is all one, Exposé all the other. My system, what I like to refer to as the 8-fold Path, is to put windows at each of the 4k's 8 corner points. (along the 2 edges next to the actual corner, which is a hot corner so you don't want to accidentally hit it.) The end result is even "laptop full screen" windows leave enough on the opposite side that I can see most/an edge of at least 7 other windows. This combined with app switching is enough, most of the time. It was better with the 1440, running 8 720 windows, but the modern browsing experience, and my degrading eyesight, means some windows are much larger than that. It was also better when Mac apps were more consistant about click to raise. I went to see the WWII shooting range ruin again, explored the whole thing since I drove up and thus didn't have to bike back. There were only 3 other hikers, none that seemed like they go off the trail so I had the ruins entirely to myself, IYKWIM. I enjoyed it, though I don't understand why you'd need the scary tunnel if you have ranks of shooters all pointing in the same direction. They are trusting something to not shoot the people in the front, so why not the side? I also walked all the bike trails. I forgot to bring a trash bag again, not that it would have made any difference at the ruins. (The rest of the park was pretty clean. I picked up only a few things.) I also had an unexpectedly nice time just laying on a hot rock and breathing. I enjoyed the stream and dam in the other section as well. Reborn as a Vending Machine, I Now Wander the Dungeon: So some times, a Japanese parody is better at that thing than the thing it is nominally making fun of. (Ex: Card Captor Sakura) This is not one of those times. This isn't even a parody. It's just dumb. Still probably the best isekai in ages
My Tiny Senpai: oppai loli office romance. The only thing stopping her breasts from being bigger than her head is her enormous, Dib-like head. None of them turns into a fox, though she does get catty.
Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout The Animation: slightly pervy VG, very slow. Even a double episode barely bothers to introduce the world to a level most shows just skip entirely.
The Great Cleric: yet more isekai. Might be something if it were a commentary on the healthcare system, but that would be too impolite, plus the Japanese healthcare system is fantastic in comparison.
Tenchi: apparently involves several side shows, novels, and massive timeskip?
+ AYAKA: why fade out if you can bubble. It's not Hell's Paradise, but it would do.
- The Masterful Cat Is Depressed Again Today: the animators did not have to go that hard for such a stupid concept.
- The Gene of AI: As much as I love the SciFiWeirdness, the specific thing they were going on about was incredibly stupid. Rather than lose 1 week of memory, suffer for 2 weeks and die and lose 3 weeks of memory? As somebody who has memory issues, I don't like what they are saying. Does not compute. Norman, coordinate!
TenPuru: slightly pervy harem
- Mushoku Tensei: Didn't watch it the first time, but it is apparently the original isekai, and is more complex than most, so I'll check it out. Didn't hate it, and it didn't immediately abandon the reincarnation concept or have a VG interface for no reason. Here's hoping it will eventually have an end.
The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses: The other GoHands excessive animation show. I can't stand the megavirgins, though. Also, miso soup eye.
- Liar, Liar: not terrible. The problem with this sort of thing is the hero can't be smarter than the author, which this gets around by making the hero a liar. That does make it just a harem, though, with no stakes.
* Undead Murder Farce: good stuff, less lewd than InSpectre, which is a plus/minus.
I skipped a bunch more isekai, magic high school, and the Holy Grail thing on principle, and canceled HiDive because of how irritating the site was to use. I'll get back to that eventually because they do have nice shows. I'm also considering dropping Netflix quality, as it would be the price of HiDive and I might actually have used that more, vs the Netflix shows I watched being really good and I'd want to see them in at least HD. #animeSEITOKAI YAKUINDOMO MOVIE 2: I'm pretty sure I saw the first one. #animeversaclouderp.com / 503-922-3621 is shit. #seo@FxckArmy "I just feel Like I've outgrown the idea of employment" Older meme: "It's easier to imagine the end of the world than it is to imagine the end of capitalism" + a bit about how people assume that a free market and capitalism are the same thing. #memeI got the Incarnon Burstron. Birdy Wing was boring during the school segment, but the insanity picked back up again. Ancient Magus Bride is entirely school segment, except for the tunnel hounds. The Marginal Service is bad. I'm still not sure why it exists. Is it a stupid kids show somebody snuck hundreds of movie references into? Or is it a movie gag comic that just doesn't have a viable A plot? X & Y is not great, not resolving into a real plot, although the general thought is the narrator is the crazy one. I'm glad they left the episodes at their original length and not re-edit it into 24m. (Don't do that again!) Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts is also bad, never achieving any kind of point or character growth, except possibly Anubis, in one episode. KamiKatsu is enjoyable trash. The Legendary Hero is Dead! is less trash, and less enjoyable, but acceptable. Magical Destroyers is heart-felt, but forgettable. (and the world it is defending is gone, anyway.) MASHLE is sugary empty calories. If only there was some sort food metaphor for that. Dead Mount Death Play is good, but ongoing. Hell's Paradise is great, and ongoing. For continued series, KKKBPunch continues to be terrible (but I still watched it), Golden Kamui continues to be great. The Abroad in Japan youtube channel visited some of these places. Konosuba was less nopan, more mean to Yunyun. I still haven't gotten to the HiDive shows with TotK and all, and now won't because it's expiring, and while the shows I watched there were really good, the site is just so bad. #anime@SKWatlanta "When you've got nothing to show for the time you've spent on this earth, conspiracy theories are the next logical step. Nothing fixes low self-esteem like thinking you carry secret (batshit and untrue) knowledge" This relates to the Church of the Subgenius, what with X-Day coming up soon. The message of the Church is here's some secret knowledge that is transparently insane, but buried in there is the message that there is no answer, no god, no fascist father figure. If there was anybody in the Illuminati or secret one world government, there'd be a Church of the Subgenius designed to snag the Pat Sajaks or Kevin Sorbos of the world and deprogram the Bobbies. Instead, we get Elon Musk as world overlord. #memeINSOMNIACS AFTER SCHOOL: Like Call of the Night, but fewer abusive relationships, vampires. At least until the anime-haired character shows up, who complains about the weight of a sleeping bag, but lugs a Jackery up a mountain to make a pancake. #animeOtaku Elf ep 1: meh #animeTHE DEMON GIRL NEXT DOOR #1, #2: fluffy. I did not need https://www.casualvillain.com/Unsounded/comic/ch17/ch17_144.html (I warned you!) on top of the Made in Abyss rewatch. Soylent Update: it's been good. It gives me a nice feeling, is easy to prepare and clean up, and probably healthier than eating PB&J every day for 20 years. I haven't been living off it, though I might be more tempted in the full summer heat. I haven't developed toxic flatulence. (any more than usual.) My only complaint is the powder is, well, powdery, and a little cloud forms when dumped into a glass. I could be less miserly, or work on my dumping technique. I also tried the original flavor. Kind of vaguely oat-y. Hardly objectionable, but I'll try the various flavor packets. Extraction 2: still OK, I guess. The action scenes are huge, but a lot of it doesn't make much sense or is lifted from video games. #tvhttps://www.theverge.com/features/23764584/ai-artificial-intelligence-data-notation-labor-scale-surge-remotasks-openai-chatbots How is this not Severance, except cheaper and somehow more inhumane? There's an active attempt to scam Aptera investors with a huge network of fake accounts trying to funnel you to a fake site. Poor timing, though, as Aptera paused the investing to update the SEC docs. #apteraThere's no way to share to calendar? Or force it to process text like "event is next Tuesday"? The ever more affordable EVs are probably bad news for possible Aptera owners who don't want to drive a UFO. (Unless Aptera really can keep to the pre-"Inflation" price, in which case it is the same price, but goes much farther, faster, safer, and also looks like a UFO.) Also: https://www.thedrive.com/features/my-cheap-electric-go-kart-is-better-than-ever-and-now-you-can-build-it-too a Mini-Aptera, and the comments are mostly people complaining about the 3 wheels. Alan Greenspan is again shocked that people operate in ways that are counter-productive to Fed policy, their company, or even themselves. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1kOLhhSjl8 While I agree in principle, I would quibble with the use of the busses: the problem is they are cheap and poorly run. You could buy cheap overhead wiring, too. One might recall they sparked, loudly, and caused fires. That's why everyone stopped using them. Also Li fires are not extinguished by any amount of water. That firefighters keep dumping water on it isn't the battery's fault. (Put a blanket over it!) While I agree the only solution is a new (or really old) urbanism, a really light and efficient, simplified electric car addresses many of these issues. Music: Helium Vola #musicThe Air restarted while watching the new Abroad in Japan. Impressive that it came back up on its own, but not great. Getting images off an iPhone seems to have become noticeably worse, and not just that I had to reboot to get it to work at all. There's 2 of every image, and they are all HEIC, which, fine, but the jpeg Preview produces from that is the same size! The next gen format saves nothing? It's just irritating. WebP is still 1/4th the size, and so far as I can see, identical. The Orville: while house-sitting, I've been watching Hulu. It is pretty nice Star Trek, but I also didn't bother to watch all of it. Maybe I'm just cranky because I haven't been heating the house. Cityscapes: Checking out the new Apple Arcade games in a continued effort to stop playing Mini Motorways. It's not SimCity. The UI seems designed to irritate and it still has the FtP hooks. Also it crashed the Mac, or at least the Mac crashed hard while it was running. Despite the obvious issues with its logic (like factories needing people right next to people needing factories), I'd still like to play it, but it just dies in a variety of ways. Heat: part of Netflix's attempt to have more things that don't suck? Somebody pointed out they have far less titles than the average Blockbuster, and almost nothing older than 10 years, but then this and The Birds showed up. I don't think I actually ever saw this, but was familiar with it in the "seen the Simpsons parody" way. I should have seen this as a double bill with Leon. #tv@joncoopertweets "Everyone is talking about Clarence Thomas's blatant corruption. Let's not forget we STILL don't know who paid off Brett Kavanaugh's $200,000 credit card debt, his $92,000 country club fees, and his $1.2 million mortgage. HOW MANY SUPREME COURT SEATS HAVE BEEN PUT UP FOR SALE?" And that report about how his investigation was completely botched, and then absolutely nothing happened. #memeThe Diplomat: needs more WalkNTalk Energy, but good stuff, lets one imagine that diplomacy still happens. #tvhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYroDMTLVt4 Fully Charged, Squad Solar. It's a golf cart, but a nicer city car than the much larger, faster Aptera. American cities need things like this. It is a shame they are not legal. Disappointed Jack didn't mention Aptera, a far more finished solar car he sat in. #apterahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAZGX379dmc DC-DC converters. A step to the no-inverter solar world. I'd cover that car with solar panels. Aptera Update: Considering CarPlay/Android Auto, not confirmed, but seemed like they were relying on that for audio/map. (Or AOC suggests Android Automotive, with just 1 Aptera authored charge status app, the rest Google, and then perhaps also CP/AA. Aptera is turning loose the auto ui company it merged with, after not doing anything public.) If it does Android Automotive, maybe shrink the screen, add an eye-level mount for the phone? AAmotive has very limited apps, and it is not like a car sized tablet. They are also considering not using a silicon carbide inverter, because the power per 3 engines doesn't have nearly the same amount of loss as a high energy single motor, and silicon carbide is 10x the cost. It's nice that they are looking at every last detail to make the vehicle cheaper, but not just cutting to the bone. (to the point it doesn't work, looking at you, Solo.) Production parts are possible this summer. (not all the parts, but some) Half the accelerator board is full, still not enough money to buy full production capacity. #apterahttps://www.cbr.com/anime-piracy-site-more-popular-than-crunchyroll-hulu/ In other news, I haven't been able to see anything on CR for 2 days. I hadn't restarted or updated or changed my privacy settings. Restarting everything hasn't helped. Things like GTM don't load, but they weren't before and it doesn't work if I re-enable them. It shows there's 2 devices now, but one was last used 2/27. CR's forums are gone, too. Not that I'd read them, but they might have had tips for "WEBK-0". Might just need to use Chrome, but Safari remembers the password. [It's back, a few hours later] #anime#complainingDuviri alternate idea I had waiting for a pot to boil: The mind space is yours, but from a third timeline, where you mastered the void powers, but not your sanity. You regret the horrible things you did to the adults and to the other children, but can't turn time back any farther than after the Zarimann's jump, so you are trapped going back and forth reliving your atrocities, until Tenshin and the Drifter gets pulled in from the universe next door, and then they pull in the Tenno and frames from the 'correct' universe next to that. You then fix the sanity issue by reintegrating (or disintegrating) your alt-self in a final battle that has some sort of emotional resonance or closure, but keep the undercroft to pull items out of your own universe. This might also be a clue for the Man in the Wall, which might be yet another version of you with way more mastery of the void, but much less sanity. #warframeVanquish: terrible. Doesn't even start for like 8 minutes #tv@goofxist Post-post-apocalypse is the greatest underused trope of all time - Right? #memeThe Big 4: a much better bad movie. Though he should have done the whole opening in the old age makeup. #tvJui Jitsu: all star cast, unbelievably bad #tvOne of the original shacks that first started my #shacklife search years ago sold again last week at a 610% price increase. It's possible that it was fixed up, because it needed it, but zillow doesn't have any new photos for it. It didn't even seem to get listed, just sold. There seem to be a lot of recent sales for massive price premiums, well above the massive price increases over the last few years. Probably some new VC bot or something. I think I really missed out on shack ownership. It seemed like such a modest goal. #shacklifeThe Birds: so many birds! #tvConan the Destroyer: so many fox tails! #tvDuviri Day 2: I found the circuit and the rewards. That's what I get for not leaving the cave yesterday. It bugged out on me so I'm afraid to do a long run in it. [It can't go longer than 3 rounds] It did seem fun and new, picking up random weapons and having a go with it. This is actually how I've been playing, up until now when I've nearly run out of things to master. Related, may need to switch to a leveling focus school because it gives lots of focus, but to the school, not the lens. Did not get into the steel path yet. Also got the True Master, blessed everybody already. It doesn't take as long if you sit on the air tower spawns, click them right off. #games#warframeGIANT BEASTS OF ARS: Good stuff, though doesn't end or explain what the hats were for. #animeWarframe Duviri Initial impression: meh. Thrax (isn't there already an enemy type named that? Or did I already forget his name?) is a total non-entity. At no point was I horrified or physically repulsed. The story line is unfinished? A meta-commentary on the angry nerds who choose to stay in their safe place playing with their broken dolls, refusing to let the game change? It's not comparable to the previous stories. (Zarimann is literally looming over the proceedings.) They are still trying to make Drifter combat a thing. People have said its the mobile gaming thing, a couple taps per enemy. So, fine, but why cram that in to the main game? It does not seem good that all the new stuff is moving away from the basic Space Ninja action or MR loop. The new bounties are a pain in the ass. I failed at 6/6 because I didn't see how to kill the space worm and I died 3 times, which was all I had left because I don't think it reset. (solo, which might be bad for new content) I don't remember how to set that back to Circuit. I didn't see Incarnon weapons (except something for plat) or new rewards. There are a couple of bugs or display issues, like "walk into the light", but there's no light except right as you mirror-walk into it a giant pillar of purple light appears. The emotion based story is kind of basic and dumb for a sci-fi body horror franchise. I liked that it connected to the Dormizone, and ... that's about it. I would like it if it involved the random assortment of stuff with the no/default mods that you have to try your best with, but it used my primes, my mods, including leaving off a stance mod I don't have. The point in making it basic would be getting rid of that setup, right? Require more skill and adaptation, not looking up builds? I'd do it if it is easier than the Rot-C 1% grinds to get random old frames, but I didn't see how to get anything. I don't know what I'm doing. A lot of this seemed to be for new players, which is a complete failure. Unrelated but something in the proceedings got me to MR 30, which might be considered a natural endpoint to the game. I still have to endure that test. I did half in the Test with power roll Mesa, but good grief. Still, I'm Daddy's little meat grinder. #games#warframeI tried OpenEmu in the post-WoW, pre-Duviri, TotK lul. Old games are so bad. Part of that is not having the instructions, which was the fashion of the times. I didn't notice there was a different item and inventory button in Shadowrun so it took forever to equip the gun, for example, but it still didn't have the smooth shoot/search/loot/learn cycle of your CP2077's, even though I think it did have more lore crammed into objects. #gameshttps://www.motortrend.com/features/the-2023-toyota-prius-primes-battery-could-take-three-weeks-to-recharge/
Is The 2023 Prius Prime's Solar Roof Worth It?
These numbers might make it a little too easy to pooh-pooh the new Prius Prime's solar roof. We don't entirely agree. If the reason to choose the Prime over the regular Prius is its electric driving potential, then features that optimize that could make sense. It was always cool to start the car and see the range had risen without us really doing anything. We literally just parked outside. And even if four miles was the best daily addition we saw, that's four fewer miles that we needed to wait for the battery to gain while plugged in.
The 2023 Prius Prime's solar roof isn't a game changer, but its ability to make sun-baked bonus miles can come in handy—your results will vary.
But what if it was a game changer at 20 miles a day? That's the average commute. What about 30? 40? The Prime is 44 miles per 14kW, so about 1/3 an aptera. (An aptera being the unit of ideal efficiency. ;) Also twice the weight. #apteraI had a headache again, with vision issues, nausea, chills, and sweat, except the other side, not the spike into the right eye, more like a tension headache, but only the left half. Even a day later, certain movements can cause the pressure to spike. I wonder if it's the same sort of nerve thing, just another nerve? Or something I ate: fudge egg, small daily pieces. #medicalhttps://www.garbageday.email/ the new suck.com #internetSolo is having a recall for engine control issues, with the G2 and G3 models. I'm assuming it was a change to make it cheaper, and that's why they couldn't replace it with the G1 parts? Rather than shut down the whole thing? That's why you don't make cars one at a time when you have 40,000 pre-orders. #apteraAlso the Messerschmitt KR200: If you made those wheel pods independent (so they could bounce up and down, reducing the height of the wheel well), you could have the look of a VW Bug, but also have the advantage of Aptera's pods? Or, have the pods articulate like a suit of armor. So they are only spherical when turning. #apterahttps://theoldmotor.com/?p=185496 "Brogan hand-built 30 Doodlebugs and sold them for $400 each before realizing he lost $100 on every car he turned out. Tooling for mass production required $150,000 that he didn’t have, so he suspended Doodlebug sales." That's why you don't make cars one at a time when you have 40,000 pre-orders. Brogan later produced a 3 wheeled car the right way around, and a 3 wheeled car with 4 wheels: "Brogan-Trucks featured one steerable wheel upfront and three independently sprung wheels in the rear with power transferred via chain to the center rear wheel. The odd configuration eliminated the need for a costly differential." #apteraI got a Saryn Systems, and, astounded at my luck after all this time, tried it again, and got another. That's 2 new/old frames in a day. Then I got a Kuva Bramma from Cuii Linanip. I assume she hates ferrets, too. I was considering keeping her, but the bramma. Also she was an immense pain in the ass, not appearing at all or portalling all over and healing, while I try to track down which of the red dots was which. Also, twice the op bugged out and t-posed and lost the amp. #warframeAnime Spring 2023 First Episode review:
* Hell's Paradise: Good stuff, though Nanachi is the only silver haired Hollow for me.
My Clueless First Friend: More bullying, shouting
My Love Story with Yamada-kun at Lv999: Yamada-desu. What's up with these t-shirts?
The Aristocrat's Otherworldly Adventure: Serving Gods Who Go Too Far: skipped
Kizuna no Allele: virtual idol nonsense
I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in The Real World, Too: skipped even harder
Skip and Loafer: nice enough, but not particularly compelling. If I wanted realism, I'd talk to people
- KamiKatsu: Working for God in a Godless World: no point, but bonkers
Yuri Is My Job!: meh
Opus.COLORs: skipped. The synopsis sounded too high concept to be any fun.
- The Legendary Hero is Dead!: slightly pervy comedy
The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses: harem, mild perversion
Rokudo's Bad Girls: somebody's fetish, more bullying
My One-Hit Kill Sister: skipped
- MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES: wacky enough
* Magical Destroyers: mega-bonkers. The sad thing is a lot of the old Akihabara is already gone.
A Galaxy Next Door: described as wholesome, but also immediately overworks the assistant. Didn't even promise her a Playstation.
Summoned to Another World for a Second Time: skipped
Why Raeliana Ended Up at the Duke's Mansion: No BaKatarina, and it seemed like she is the instigator in the incident that only she knows about.
THE MARGINAL SERVICE: very boring, then goes completely insane for a minute. At least worth another episode. [Also boring, but has an extended and subtle Arnold movie riff. I have no idea who this is made for, or if it is so bad on purpose.]
- My Home Hero: gritty, realistic in that people are making dumb decisions.
* Dead Mount Death Play: reversed isekai, but not terrible. I turned the subwoofer up for that. Giant skels should have bone jaring sound effects.
X&Y: The English subtitle isn't great, and it doesn't even attempt the onscreen text, but the animation is detailed, plot extremely weird.
Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts: a nicer Tales of outcasts?
- The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady: A stew of tired tropes, but actually works as a blend better than any individual part. Still, nothing actually new and I probably wouldn't have watched it if it wasn't first.
Ningen Fushin: Adventurers Who Don't Believe in Humanity Will Save the World: Speaking of tired tropes. (literally the same things!) Also the purple in the eyes is odd and off-putting. However, dragon-girl moved that chair with her tail, so as a shippotaku, I'm here for that.
Lee's Detective Agency: Arknights spin-off semi-short. More furry than the main show, and seems to have no connection at all aside from 'Lungmen'. (I have no idea what the game looks like.) Visually interesting, but no clue what is happening.
Technoroid OVERMIND: more idol nonsense until the post-credits shover robot. (or was it the pusher robot?) [Update: is entirely ignored in favor of more idol stuff and androids moving in with a 13 year old boy. There may be a SF story happening here, but it's going to be in the margins.]
The Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague: glacially slow romance, but does contain a fox lady, if briefly. As a shippotaku, I appreciated that her tail didn't clip through her dress.
Tomo-chan Is a Girl!: Cute, but too tame to be any good. Tomo's Mom is cute, too. The romance with the foxy lady or the fox lady?
* Revenger: I still contend that Christianity and anime is a death flag, but this is Boondock Saints-style Christianity, so it's probably fine
NIJIYON ANIMATION: pointless short, but the animation is notable. There's still some uncanny motion, but either the human animated 3D work is superb, or more likely, the 2D rendering of the 3D model is very traditional looking.
ONIMAI: I'm Now Your Sister!: low grade perversion, but the mc is a Kemono Friends reader, so it can't be all bad.
Sugar Apple Fairy Tale: cookies, also extremely uncomfortable racism.
The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World: skipped
+ Buddy Daddies: do gay crime
UniteUp!: Idol nonsense, skipped
Chillin' in My 30s after Getting Fired from the Demon King's Army: Not isekai, so a point there, but equally boring and clichéd. Also the subs were running a little fast, which I actually enjoyed. After reading the text then hearing the Japanese with that already in mind, I could translate a lot! (Helped by the plot/dialog being extremely basic.)
The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten: avoids being completely clichéd by not following through on the clichés it starts. Is still boring.
TRIGUN STAMPEDE: I thought it unfortunate that they did not take the opportunity to retcon naming somebody "Millions Knives". (Although they did seem to imply that maybe that was only after he had turned evil.) They did get rid of the lightbulbs. The CGI is very good, but also distinctively soft and 'modern' (or made for Netflix (but not everyone is gay (so far))), which makes the concept art at the end disjointed: the video delivers none of that mood or scale. It would cost too much to make models that big, and I guess nobody thought about just painting the concept art on the skybox yet. First episode isn't terrible, but if you remake things, you are inviting in-depth comparisons, and it doesn't do well with that. Also they are not catering to my very specific fetish, Millie, a tall girl.
NieR:Automata Ver1.1a: The only thing I know about the game is you shouldn't put your hand in the androids. The CGI is not so great. People are saying it's worse than the game's.
The Reincarnation Of The Strongest Exorcist In Another World: skipped. "This is the start of a story no one's ever seen before" No, not really. I thought it was the second season to something else from the art.
By the Grace of the Gods: skipped, with the slimes. Not even a cat-girl could get me to watch it.
The tale of outcasts: On the other hand, I'll watch this for the cat-guy demon. The girl is a bit of a victim.
Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for my Retirement: was going to skip it, but I noticed the pistol. I like the concept. First episode is an infodump, though
Play It Cool, Guys: somebody's very specific fetish
- Handyman Saitou in another world: isekai 4-koma, but not OP, and interesting premise and realistic in the way that a modern person would be pretty useless it a dungeon.
D4DJ All Mix: skipped, also seems to have a first season under a slightly different name.
- HIGH CARD: do more gay crime
Malevolent Spirits: Mononogatari: The Anikin Skywalker version of Tsugumono. Also curious as to why it is spelled differently, when it is clearly the same concept
The Vampire Dies in No Time: gag comic, somehow missed the first season.
Ayakashi Triangle: Mild perversion, censored. I do question the morals involved in censoring a human's breasts with a cat's genitals.
Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skills: skipped
* Kaina of the Great Snow Sea: top tier SF weirdness. CR logged me out me mid-stream, and I've noticed that it is impossible to get the player to stop playing. If you pause and scroll down, it starts again. If it finishes, it will restart from the top. If you leave the page then, it records the episode as half-watched and the queue never shows you the next episode.
Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire: "Reborn in the far future", oh that makes all the difference. skipped
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel - Northern War: Video game adaptation, mishmash of various things. I feel the fantasy elements and the giant mecha elements detract from the politics, which aren't as good as GalHero. (at the least: 3 sides, not 2. Drama! Tension!)
* The Fire Hunter: Very Shinsekai Yori vibe post-post-apocalyptic. This is absolutely what I'm here for.
Sorcerous Stabber Orphen: Remake, that I'm not sure anyone was asking for.
"A Herbivorous Dragon of 5,000 Years Gets Unfairly Villainized" got my hopes up for another season, but it's the first season again in Japanese. #anime#tvAR Gaming ideas: hud in the glasses, obviously. Less obvious: focus tracking for enhanced rendering. So the monitor is always doing the game, but by looking at a certain spot, the glasses would render a more highly detailed or enhanced version of the thing on the monitor on top. @kindnessroast doctors in medical dramas when a patient has a mystery illness: i must examine every symptom and run every test! i won't rest until i've cracked this case! doctors irl when a patient has a mystery illness: hmmm have you considered that you're faking it [In related news, I didn't schedule another doctor's appt. He wanted one every 6 months, and another cat scan. Did not agree that was excessive.] [I used MacOS's image-to-text thing for that. I never remembered that existed when I needed it, but happened to accidentally click on something. All the twitter memes that could have been saved to my text-based blog, like tears in the rain.] #meme#medicalUnsurprisingly, it is now beyond impossible to find new Binchou-tan art, although according to wikipedia, Binchou-tan is currently the mascot of Kishu-Binchōtan Promotion Museum (紀州備長炭振興館, Kishu-Binchōtan Shinkoukan) operated by Minabegawa Forestry Society in Minabe, Wakayama. It's nice she still has some work to buy rice. I hope they feed her.
I had to find this on a duck fetishist's website. Also, relative links are probably going break the rss. Variables are one thing where the Perl version of pSpace is vastly inferior to the Java one. Project Binchoustan Update: I have become resigned to getting a car before getting a shack (necessary to repeatedly check out the remote areas, in order to determine your next door neighbor isn't Beelzebub, Lord of Flies, or that the neighborhood down the road a bit didn't wash away in a storm. (I still might consider it. I'll be dead by the time it's underwater, anyway.)), and probably also that I'll never be able to get a shack. The 2 price increases during The Time of Covid and The Transitory Inflation are just too big, and I'm too afraid of losing investment income that I'll need to deal with the inflation (or airquotes ""inflation"", because it's obvious companies just jacked up prices and pocketed it). The EV I want is still an Aptera, so I'm waiting on that to get to my place in the line, or even start the assembly line. The Aptera at least will let me go car camping, so I could experience more of the country cheaply while finding a place that might have a shack, and then doing all the due diligence on the area. Related to the new theme, a newer system, to support the rss feed. (which is an actual working feed, not the joke thing where I'd render this page in <xml>)(New joke: whole thing as ActivityPub/JSON). I hope to timestamp things, but I don't have that macro-ed yet, so it might be some bulk process, and hopefully content specific tags, so I could pull all the anime, movies, or video game content out, or all the #whining and delete it. A new theme, at last. Zima Blue won't take over 99% of the screen, although I maybe already have dismantled my higher functions so I can just happily pick up trash, the task I was made for, also the most fun thing I did last summer. Mysterious font created by Jon for the ancient fox text from Tunic. The text displayed is notably not the Tunic phonetic system, as that would make it harder to grep the site's source files for movies I might have watched, which is this site's primary purpose. I was considering making each article have its own random translate text trigger, but that was probably too unreadable, even for me. It's bad enough that the secret button is not near any deep links, like all the guids I just put in for the rss. I also wanted to do something like Unsounded's journal pages (now no longer canon), but don't have the effort and skill needed for that. I wanted to use the "Made in Abyss" font, have this be a balloon message from the depths of the Abyss that you could translate entry by entry. None of the old otf or ttf fonts worked, plus they don't have a full Roman alphabet (why would they?).
